Mentorship/Outreach Resources

Over time, I've created some resources that colleagues and students have told me they have found useful. I'm posting them in case they are of use to others:

A presentation on Managing Your Career as a PhD targeted at PhD students in particular. It was originally given at TU Delft as part of their PromooD 2010 Career event.

A presentation on Publishing Your Research for undergraduate STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) researchers, but the presentation might also benefit graduate students. It details why publishing is important in STEM, and the overall process along with writing tips.

A presentation on Navigating for a Successful Career targeted at undergraduate and graduate students embarking on a career path. For PhD students I would recommend the Managing Your Career as a PhD talk instead.

A presentation on Research Methods for undergraduate research students describing the research cycle and how to begin working on a research topic.

Guidelines for Writing an Effective Thesis Proposal; this is primarily for graduate students, but it also applies to undergraduate researchers (however, the scope of the report is usually much more focused).

Some brief tips on Starting Your Research; I have not yet found time to detail this completely.

A Course Assistant Information Guide primarily focused for students who TA for me, but many of the tips will probably be useful to others.

Some Study Suggestions and Advice for undergraduate engineering students who feel overwhelmed by their coursework, but I think some of it applies to graduate students and non-engineering majors alike.

Some worthwhile self-analysis and identification tools:

If anyone can recommend others, please let me know and I'll add them to the list.
